Thrift store proceeds help support St. John’s Church, which has long been recognized as an outstanding structure of Lake County and is open to the community for meetings, plays, concerts, and social events. It is registered as a local Red Cross Shelter. The church building was designated a Lake county point of historical interest by the California Historical Resources Commission in 1989. In 2012, it earned an Award of Recognition for restoration and preservation by the California Heritage Council, California Trust for Historic Preservation. Although the property, with its historic building, is owned by the parish and held in trust for the Diocese of Northern California and The Episcopal Church, it is solely maintained by the generous support of local parishioners and friends of the parish with annual pledges and proceeds of the St. John’s thrift shop.
We are very pleased to announce that the Rev. Delia Fay has agreed to be our long-term supply priest. Mother Delia will be with us on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month and she will celebrate Palm Sunday, Easter and Pentecost with us throughout 2015 She drives from Chico to Lakeport and is accompanied by her adorable goldendoodle Sophie. Welcome Mother Delia!
Volunteer opportunities at St. John’s Episcopal Church
If you’re friendly, frequent thrift stores, and have an hour or two to share, perhaps you’re just the person to volunteer in St. John’s Thrift Shop.
“Volunteers are needed, especially to help sort the overstock,” said Nancy Carter, thrift shop manager. “Even an hour or two would be appreciated.”
If you’re interested, leave a message for Carter at (707) 900-1777.
The church thrift shop is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the corner of Clearlake Ave. and North Forbes Street in Lakeport.
